Borders RTS Strategy Tier List
Strategy Tier List Overview
This strategy tier list ranks playstyles in Borders RTS by win rate, flexibility, and ranked viability during Season 1 early alpha. Strategies intersect with build paths and map choice — no strategy is universally S-tier across all seven regions.
Top strategies combine expansion timing, resource management, and diplomatic awareness. Pure one-dimensional play loses to adaptable opponents who scout and counter. Read our win guide for fundamental victory conditions before chasing S-tier labels.

S Tier Strategies
Hybrid Economy-Military — Economy opening with timed military transition. Dominates most lobbies on North America, Asia, and balanced Europe spawns. Flexible response to neighbor behavior.
Chokepoint Defense Counter — Fortify funnels, scale economy behind walls, counterattack overextended rushers. S-tier on Europe, Japan, and South America.
Trade Empire — Port-heavy economy with alliance trading via T key. S-tier on Oceania and coastal Japan. Requires trade mastery.
A Tier Strategies
Early Military Rush — A-tier on dense lobbies, B-tier on wide maps. Eliminates weak neighbors fast but fails against prepared defense. Boost with UNITBOOST code.
Wide Expansion Blitz — A-tier first five minutes on large maps. Claims neutral territory before contact. Vulnerable if neighbors coordinate early wars.
Naval Island Hop — A-tier on Japan and Oceania, B-tier elsewhere. Requires fleet investment and invasion timing.
Late Nuke Pivot — A-tier stalemate breaker on Asia and North America. Requires economic foundation from nuke guide and protection.
B-C Tier & Counter Strategies
Pure Turtle — B-tier. Survives early but loses territory percentage race without counterattacks. Viable only as temporary phase within defense-counter strategy.
All-In Early Rush Without Scouts — C-tier in ranked. Blind rushes into prepared defense waste troops and economy.
Diplomatic Kingmaker — B-tier niche. Manipulates alliances without fighting until final betrayal. High skill ceiling, inconsistent results.
Adapt strategy to lobby reads using ranked tips. Season 1 events through September 1, 2026 may shift strategy viability with temporary modifiers.
Counter-Picking Strategies
When neighbors run military rush, respond with defense-counter or hybrid economy-defense rather than mirroring rush — mirror rushes produce mutual weakening that third players exploit for free territory snowballs toward 80%.
When neighbors run economy greed, military rush or fast hybrid expansion punishes slow barracks timing. Scout farm counts versus barracks counts during minute three contact windows for readable tells.
When neighbors run trade empires on Oceania, naval blockades and military pressure before trade snowball peaks prevent economic runaways. Delaying confrontation until minute fifteen often too late against successful trade scaling.
Strategy tier labels describe average viability — expert execution elevates B-tier strategies and poor execution demotes S-tier picks. Ranked improvement often comes from execution refinement before strategy hopping across tier list categories.
